January Jones (Mad Men) is set to star in the Netflix figure skating series Spinning Out, according to Deadline. The actress will play Carol Baker —the mother of the two lead characters, Kat and Serena — a former figure skater who had to put aside her dreams when she got pregnant.
Jones’ casting comes on the heels of former Olympian Johnny Weir, Kaya Scodelairo (The Maze Runner) replacing Emma Roberts (American Horror Story) in the lead role, as well as the additions of Evan Roderick (Arrow), Sarah Wright Olsen (American Made), Will Kemp (Reign), Kaitlyn Leeb (Shadowhunters), Amanda Zhou (October Faction) and Mitchell Edwards (Roxanne Roxanne).
Jones, who starred in AMC’s Mad Men from 2007-2015, has bounced around a number of series over the last few years, including Last Man on Earth. She will next be seen in the upcoming series The Politician from Ryan Murphy.
Spinning Out is a 10-episode series created by former competitive figure skater Samantha Statton (Mr. Mercedes). It will follow the story of Kat Baker (Scodelario), an up-and-coming, high-level single skater who’s about to turn in her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track. When Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a talented bad-boy partner, she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. On and off the ice, Kat and her new partner will face daunting odds, injury to body and soul, financial sacrifice, and even potential mental breakdown on their way to realizing their Olympic dream.
