Two-time Oscar nominee, and Golden Globe and Emmy winner James Woods is set to star in the upcoming Showtime drama series “Ray Donovan,” the network announced today. He will play the recurring role of Patrick “Sully” Sullivan. Living in his hometown of South Boston, Sully has a very complicated history with the Donovan family.
Set in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous, “Ray Donovan” does the dirty work for LA’s top power players. The one-hour drama series stars Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Liev Schreiber as the go-to guy who makes the problems of the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear. The drama unfolds when his father, played by Oscar winner Jon Voight, is unexpectedly released from prison, setting off a chain of events that shakes the Donovan family to its core.
The series’ cast also includes Oscar winner and guest star Elliott Gould as Ray’s long-time client and mentor, Paula Malcomson (The Hunger Games) in the role of Ray’s wife, Abby, along with Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Dash Mihok (I Am Legend), who will play Ray’s brothers. The cast also includes Katherine Moennig (“The L Word”), Pooch Hall (“The Game”), Steven Bauer (“Breaking Bad”), Kerris Dorsey (Moneyball) and Devon Bagby. Johnathon Schaech (That Thing You Do!) and Peter Jacobson (“House”) guest star.
The series marks a return to television for Woods, who last starred as the title character in the CBS drama series Shark. Woods will begin filming next week in Los Angeles.
“Ray Donovan” is created and executive produced by Ann Biderman (“Southland”). The series will also be executive produced by Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff. The pilot was directed by Allen Coulter (“The Sopranos,” “Sons of Anarchy”), who also serves as producer.
