Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected Being Rebooted for TV

Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected will be getting a TV reboot by The Ink Factory (The Night Manager, The Little Drummer Girl), Deadline has confirmed.

The original series was produced by Anglia Television for ITV in 1979 and ran until 1988. Each episode told a different story, based on of the author’s short stories, and ended with a twist. Dahl was present at the end of each episode offering his trademark sinister comedy. The episodes mainly centered on reality, differing from sci-fi anthology shows like The Twilight Zone.

The outlet notes that the adaptation already has a few writers onboard to work on the project, including Claire Wilson (The Little Drummer GirlGangs of London), Tom Basden (The Wrong Mans) and newcomer Ella Hickson. The Ink Factory is collaborating closely with the Roald Dahl Story Company on the new series, which will air as an original anthology adaptation unconnected to the previous ITV show.

The Ink Factory previously adapted author John le Carré’s The Night Manager, starring Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, and the upcoming limited series The Little Drummer Girl for AMC and BBC, which premiered on October 28 and stars Florence Pugh, Alexander Skarsgård, and Michael Shannon.
