Daredevil season 3 episode 2 finds Matt back at the church after his beating in the previous episode. For so long, Matt felt like this was his calling, that his abilities were a gift from God. Now, Matt believes that God had nothing to do with it. Matt is his own person, forged by circumstances, not some divine hand. Now that he can no longer be the Daredevil that he once was, Matt is grieving his loss of purpose and identity.
“Love Is the Perfect Prison”
With the information that Fisk gave the FBI, Ray makes a big collar on an Albanian gang and the corrupt government officials they had bought. Forces within the department attempt to take over the Fisk job, but Ray manages to remain on Fisk detail.
Working with the FBI has branded Fisk a snitch. After an attempt on Fisk’s life, it becomes clear to Fisk and the FBI that the other prisoners and the guards will try to shut him up. Through his lawyer, Fisk alters his deal with the FBI so that Fisk will be transported to private confinement.
During the transfer, the FBI caravan is attacked by the Albanians seeking revenge. Ray is incapacitated. Fisk watches as the other agents guarding the caravan are gunned down and blown up. The Albanians are cutting through the vehicle to get to Fisk when a lone agent takes out the thugs with a single shot or knife throw to each.
“I Don’t Know if the Truth Is Any Better”
Karen is still chasing leads about what happened at Midland Circle in The Defenders when she is put on another story. Karen goes to the hospital to interview a socialite and reality TV star whose father was attacked in the previous episode. The woman doesn’t trust the press until Karen connects with her by telling the woman about her own history with people making up stories when they’re not given the facts. The woman relents and describes both the attack and the black-masked vigilante who saved them.
“You’re a Big Deal”
Foggy goes home to a big family meal. His mother tells Foggy that his father’s arthritis is getting worse every day. She tells Foggy that he needs to leave his profession and help Theo run Nelson Meats so that their father can retire. Foggy considers doing so. The life he leads isn’t what he always imagined for himself. Without Matt their to help anchor Foggy, he wonders whether or not he’d be happier working the store.
Karen interrupts and tells Foggy about the vigilante who broke up the attempted abduction. She wants it to be Matt so badly. Foggy says it can’t be Matt because if Matt was still alive, he would have contacted one of them by now. He tells her to give up hoping for Matt’s return.
“He Didn’t Help You, I Did”
Matt will not give up the Daredevil part of himself without a fight. Playing up his blindness, Matt is able to track down the assailants at their dry cleaning business. Though not 100%, Matt is able to take down and subdue the assailants until the police can arrive and arrest them. Matt visits the victims at the hospital, telling the woman that if she goes down to the precinct right now, she’ll be able to identify the two assailants as the men who put her father in a coma. Matt is leaving the hospital as the ambulances from the attack on the FBI transfer arrive. Matt overhears that the FBI has let Fisk out of prison.
