In the previous episode of The Purge, Rick and Jenna returned to their house and Lila surprised them by coming there as well. Jane was taken prisoner by David, Miguel and Penelope managed to escape from Henry, and Joe set out to help people in distress on Purge Night. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap The Purge season 1 episode 7 ‘Lovely, Dark, and Deep!’
Rick and Jenna
Lila continued to bang at the gate outside of the house, Jenna went to unlock the gate, but Rick stopped her. Eventually, they decided to barely open the gate so that Lila could slide in and then shut it immediately, as to not allow anyone else to sneak in. This mostly worked, but unbeknownst to them someone snuck in through the back door. Jenna took Lila upstairs to get cleaned. Jenna was dressing Lila’s wounds, under Rick’s observance; while the trio discussed the assault on the Stanton estate. The intruder barged into their bedroom, and was revealed to be Ross, their neighbor. Ross attempted to shoot Jenna, but Lila managed to stab and kill him before that could happen. Rick and Jenna immediately resolved to sell their house before their child was born.
Jane and Joe
David had Jane strung up in a display case, Jane thought back to her high school days where she was a star math student. Jane’s mother convinced her to enter beauty pageants so that she could secure scholarship money for college. David attempted to rationalize his behavior, but Jane pointed out how disturbing and perverted David’s actions were. The gathered men and women descended upon Jane, which immediately sent Jane mentally back to her beauty pageant days. One of Jane’s co-workers, Anya, tried to comfort Jane, but it was to no avail. David transitioned the events into the private session section of the night.
One of David’s close friends won the competition and selected Jane as his ‘prize’. As David was the boss, he decided to have first opportunity with Jane and he began to physically assault her, by groping her inappropriately. David clearly enjoyed the torture and anguish he was putting Jane through. Just then, the electricity cut out in the room. Joe strode into the gallery room armed with a shotgun and began blasting the gathered patrons. He freed Jane from her bonds. Joe escorted Jane out of the room, but she stopped to free the other women. Jane picked up a pistol and shot and killed David.
Miguel and Penelope
The Carnival attendants driving the cart that Miguel and Penelope were stowing away on, left to go attend to the riot that was breaking out inside of the Carnival of Flesh. While the drivers were away, Miguel and Penelope snuck out of the Carnival through a back gate. The pair set off for the woods. The duo walked through the woods and Penelope questioned Miguel’s motives for rescuing her. Penelope tried to convince Miguel that she wanted to die on Purge NIght, but Miguel couldn’t understand her reasoning.
