ComingSoon Senior Editor Brandon Schreur participated in a roundtable interview with Cobra Kai stars Mary Mouser (Samantha LaRusso), Peyton List (Tory Nichols), Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz), Gianni DeCenzo (Demetri Alexopoulos), Jacob Bertrand (Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz), and Tanner Buchanan (Robby Keene).
“After a shocking result in the Sekai Taikai, Miyagi-Do, and Cobra Kai must reckon with their pasts while facing an uncertain future both on and off the mat,” the synopsis for Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 reads. “Almost 40 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, it’s all been leading to this.”
Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
Brandon Schreur: Xolo and Mary, I loved how the last episode bookends the relationship between Miguel and Sam. It leaves things open, you don’t really know what happens to them next. I’m curious if either of you have any thoughts about what the future might have in store for them after the show wraps.
Xolo Maridueña: I thought it was a great ending for them. When we were getting down into that moment, it always felt like these two characters should go out and live their lives, but, now, they can go and have this fun trip for the moment. I thought they seemed like two folks who are going to be really good friends for a long time. And they will probably, like, help take care of each other’s kids, but maybe not end up together.
Mary Mouser: Yeah, I don’t know. My guess is as good as anybody else’s — like, we don’t know, for sure. There was no conversation of what, for sure, it would be. I could see different paths for them. There’s a world where maybe they’re like Daniel and Kumiko, who had something wonderful and then remain friends for life. Or, maybe that’s their high school sweetheart, and they come back to that. But they definitely are in an exciting place of going out and stretching their legs, and I love that neither one of them is stifling that for each other. They’re both saying, ‘Let’s embrace that both of us have wonderful futures ahead of us but let’s, like, high-five about it.’
Gianni and Jacob, Hawk and Demetri have always been some of my favorite characters in this whole show. You guys are so fun. And I love how it all kind of concludes for the Binary Brothers in the end. You guys have shared so many scenes together over the course of these six seasons. What has it been like working together and exploring that relationship together, and what do you feel like you’ve learned from each other throughout this whole show?
Gianni DeCenzo: What do you love about me, Jacob?
Jacob Bertrand: What do I love about Gianni? I love the preparation that Gianni does. Gianni does a lot of prep.
DeCenzo: We are the exact opposite. And it works!
Bertrand: That’s something that I’ve come to love about him. He preps a lot. It’s very different — I feel way more free-wheeling, ‘I’ll wing it.’
DeCenzo: Jacob has taught me that I can’t control what happens on set. I just have to go with the flow, man. It’s crazy. But, yeah, he’s great. I can’t ask for a better Binary Bro.
Thanks to Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Gianni DeCenzo, and Jacob Bertrand for discussing Cobra Kai.
