ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke to My Adventures with Superman Season 2 stars Alice Lee and Isheml Sahid, who voice Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, respectively, in the animated series. The two discussed their character’s growth and changes as the show enters its second season.
The second season of My Adventures With Superman will premiere on Saturday, May 25, at midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim with two back-to-back episodes, followed by one new episode every Saturday. New episodes will also stream on Sundays on Max.
“In the latest season, the three best friends face a host of new threats. Powerful foes will emerge from Clark’s alien past, Amanda Waller will take aim at Superman (Jack Quaid), Lois will grapple with the future, and Jimmy Olsen will spend an unbelievable amount of money. Krypton is coming for our young heroes, and its arrival will test their strength, loyalty, and love like never before,” says the synopsis.
Tyler Treese: Alice, Lois has some father issues, too, as her dad is The General. It is never great when your dad wants to kill your boyfriend. What do you like most about exploring those kinds of ramifications of what happened in Season 1 throughout Season 2?
Alice Lee: Yeah, I mean, I just think that her relationship with her dad, um, it just adds such a layer of depth to her as well. Um, and it also shows, yeah, apparently we all have daddy issues, but, um, it’s cool to see the growth and ’cause at the end of the day, he doesn’t kill her boyfriend, you know, and that’s such a moving moment. Um, and so we kind of get to see that progression into the second season and how that affects the relationship. Um, so yeah, I’m excited for everyone to see more of that.
Ishmel, Jimmy has had growth financially. He’s a millionaire now after selling Flame Bird. How’s the money changing your character?
Ishmel Sahid: You know, the money doesn’t change. Jimmy. Jimmy, he doesn’t change. He stands 10 toes down. He’s still pure of heartm who has his friends to keep him grounded. But yeah, it does change him. It does change him, but for the best. He’s still that lovable guy, who is still all about his friends and things like that. I think it changes him in a way that it will change a person at his age.
Alice, there’s the saying, “don’t meet your heroes.” Lois develops a rivalry with Vicki Vale who she looked up to and is now being shady. What do you like about that aspect of her having a rival in Gotham and them chasing some of the same stories?
Lee: I think it’s super cool because, yeah, it’s like you see her go from like, “Oh, this is my idol. Will I ever be on her level?” Yada, yada. And then to see that she holds her own and she’s coming into her own, and now she gets to be on the same level as Vicki, and they’re gonna compete for stories. Yeah, I think it’s very interesting and it’s also funny. I think it’s great.
Ishmel, we see Jimmy has a new job at The Daily Planet. He is running the video production and he is getting chastised a lot by the boss. What do you like most about this new element of him having to be accountable? He can’t just do Flame Bird when he feels like now.
Sahid: Yeah, I mean, it’s a different change of pace of this character. You know, he’s always happy go lucky, so it’s good to see him like in this kind of, uh, this kind of position where he is taken on, you know, responsibility. So, you know, he’s not as Laxy daisy as, you know, he first was starting out, so, you know, characters change, people change, so it’s just another, um, it’s just another element to this character of like how he’s gonna develop throughout the show.
Alice, what has been the highlight of the fan response? Because Lois is very involved in the show, it’s a great portrayal of the character.
Lee: It’s been amazing. Like I’m so, it’s like very surreal. Um, everyone’s response has been so good and so supportive. We’ve talked about this, we’ve watched YouTube reaction videos, and I like the fan art. Lois is in a bikini, she looks amazing. I’m just honored. This is so cool that people are also taking their time. Like that’s their time that they’re using to draw this fan art to make these videos, and that just means they’re invested and they love it. I just feel the love. I think we all do, and I’m very grateful and very excited to share the second season with you all.
Thanks to Alice Lee and Ishmel Sahid for discussing My Adventures with Superman Season 2.
