Exclusive: Mike Colter Says No Current Talks With Marvel For Luke Cage

It’s been two years since audiences last saw Mike Colter as the titular hero in the final season of the Netflix show Luke Cage and though rumors have surfaced that the streaming platform’s Daredevil, Charlie Cox, would finally be making the jump to the big screen in the upcoming third Spider-Man film with Tom Holland, Colter has revealed to ComingSoon.net that he has not heard from Marvel Studios about coming back for more.

While chatting with the 44-year-old star for the upcoming thriller Fatale starring Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy, Colter confirmed he has had no talks “whatsoever” with Marvel about reprising the fan-favorite iteration of Harlem’s Hero and that with his busy schedule he hasn’t thought about it too much, but definitely isn’t opposed if the opportunity presents itself.

“I got to say, I rarely think about it in the sense of what could be or will be, I know fans are eager to see something with the character,” Colter explained. “I know I established him and it was an honor to do that, but I don’t know what the future holds, I’m just in my mode of doing Evil right now and a few films on hiatus. If something happens, I’d love to have a conversation with them, but for now I’m not holding my breath, I’m happy either way, it was a good run.”

After clearing his name in the first season, Luke Cage became a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he could and couldn’t save and with the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke was forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

Colter returned as the titular Luke Cage, with Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Theo Rossi as Shades and Finn Jones as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. Newcomers to the second season included Mustafa Shakir (The Deuce, The Night Of) as John McIver, a natural leader, brimming with charisma, whose mission was focused on Harlem and vengeance; and Gabrielle Dennis (Insecure, Rosewood) as Tilda Johnson, a brilliant, holistic doctor with a complicated history in Harlem where, as much as she tried to stay far from trouble, it seemed to always find her.

The second season was executive produced by series showrunner Coker (Ray Donovan), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), who also served as Marvel’s Head of Television, until his departure and the division’s folding under the mammoth Marvel Studios banner.

Fatale is slated to hit theaters nationwide on December 18, followed by a PVOD release on January 8.
