In the previous episode of HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Tic, Montrose, and Leti went to 1921 Tulsa to bring back the Book of Names. In Lovecraft Country Season 1 Episode 10, Tic and Leti learned what Hannah planned for the Book of Names and worked to stop Christina.
Lifting the Curse
The Freemans and Leti returned to the house with the Book of Names. Atticus said the incantation to unbind the book, and he and Leti fell to the ground to enter another plane. Tic’s great grandmother, Hattie, greeted Leti, and Hannah met Tic amidst the flames of the burning lodge. Leti’s duty was to protect the Book of Names where Hannah tasked Tic with saving them all. On this plane, Tic also spoke with his mother, Dora, who supported him.
When they came back, they lifted the curse with the help of Hattie, Dora, and Hannah. Leti and Tic woke as Diana came to, but her arm was still dead.
The Meaning of Family
Tic and Leti summoned Titus. He fought back and escaped momentarily to appear to Christina and Ruby as they crashed their car. Hattie, Dora, and Hannah helped restrain Titus as Tic took his flesh and vanquished him. Christina showed up at the garage and took away the Mark of Cain from Leti when they refused to give her the Book.
Leti spoke with Ruby at their mother’s grave. She asked Ruby to help her get Christina’s blood for the spell. Ruby declined to help her since she felt that Leti only came to her when she wanted something from her.
Atticus called Ji-Ah to meet him. He apologized and told her what they had was real. Ji-Ah explained that her mother died and that they went to see a mudang. Tic believed her to be family as their destinies were interconnected.
Bound
Right as the Freemans and Ji-Ah left for Ardham, Ruby appeared with a bottle of Christina’s blood. In Ardham, Montrose laid down salt, Tic consumed the flesh and blood, Ji-Ah and Hippolyta marked the bridge with symbols, and Ruby and Leti marked the tower with symbols. However, Ruby was actually Christina, and she threw Leti off the tower. Everyone was captured, and Christina was able to complete the ritual, killing Tic.
Leti survived the fall, as the Mark of Cain had reappeared. She started the spell, but since the bottle didn’t have Christina’s blood, they needed a connection with her and Tic’s body. Ji-Ah used her tails to connect them, and the spell bound Christina and all white people from magic. Hippolyta gave Montrose a letter from Tic, showing that he knew he was going to die and accepted his death.
They left Christina alive, pinned to the ground. Diana arrived with her new monster friend and her new robotic arm, which she used to kill Christina.
