In the previous episode of Netflix’s GLOW, Sam called Ruth to Hollywood to audition for Justine’s movie, and Debbie offered to produce Bobby’s AIDS benefit. In GLOW Season 3 Episode 9, Ruth drove to Los Angeles and promised Sheila that she would be back in time for their scene for the charity event.
The Part
Ruth read for the part of Jules’ teacher. The teacher was supposed to have had a wild past. Only Sam thought Ruth was good for the role. Justine, the casting director, and the producer all wanted to go with someone else.
Sam asked Ruth to get a drink with him. Ruth put off driving back to Vegas to see him. At the bar, she told Sam that she was in love with him. He still loved her. They went outside to get to the car to go to Sam’s place. While waiting for the car, Sam told her that she didn’t get the part. He didn’t want them to have sex while keeping that secret. Ruth was upset with him for telling her the truth and not giving her the part. She told him to leave by himself.
The Show Must Go On
Debbie persuaded Bobby to speak with a journalist from a local listings magazine to get the word out about the AIDS charity event, The Libertine Ball. The event was filled with flamboyantly dressed people, including many members of the LGBT community. The show was a hit.
Tex learned about the event through the magazine article. Debbie didn’t think he would approve. Tex donated a large wad of cash. He’d lost his nephew.
With Ruth no-showing, Sheila was forced to go on stage alone. Her performance was powerful. The closing act had Sandy in all her showgirl glory. Unfortunately, a fire ended the event. When everyone left the building, they found homophobic slurs graffitied outside.
Jealousy
Rhonda told one of the BMX guys that she had never ridden a bike. He was teaching her while they flirted. Bash acted jealous and stopped him. This gave Rhonda the idea to pay Melanie’s prostitute boyfriend to hit on her in front of Bash. They hadn’t had sex in months, and she wanted to use the jealousy to break them out of the rut. It didn’t go quite as planned. Instead of acting jealous, Bash encouraged them. They had a threesome.
