In the previous episode of Netflix’s Designated Survivor, Hannah killed Crawford, the white supremacist who spread the engineered virus. In Designated Survivor Season 3 Episode 6, Aaron went to Texas to visit an undocumented child in need of a kidney transplant, and Dontae was mugged on his way to work.
Transplant
The campaign sent Aaron to El Paso to visit a Guatemalan boy, Mateo, whose parents crossed the border illegally to get him a kidney transplant. Mateo’s father was a match, so that would dissuade those against him jumping the donor line. Unfortunately, the procedure cost too much money. The good news was that Isabel found funds that didn’t disqualify undocumented immigrants.
While the procedure was a success, the next hurdle was affording the immunosuppressants Mateo would need to take for the rest of his life. Aaron asked people to donate to a fund for Mateo, which received over $900,000 in donations. However, because of unfavorable polling from Latinos in Florida, Kirkman decided to go ahead with deporting him after his hospital discharge. The move backfired, as pundit Phil Brunton criticized Kirkman for being too centrist.
As Aaron left the hospital, Mariluz Santiago, an undocumented immigrant he’d helped cross the border as a teenager, came to see him. A reporter was harassing her.
Urban Development
Dontae got mugged on the way to work. Kirkman found out that 1 in 5 White House aides would be mugged. He asked Dontae to show him his neighborhood, Brentwood. Brentwood was a neglected food desert. Kirkman spoke with a colleague, who had rejuvenated Atlanta, and suggested a similar program for D.C. to the HUD Secretary. While they were reluctant to trust Kirkman because of his political motivations, the Congressional Black Caucus threw their support behind him. Whether or not Kirkman was re-elected, the program was still happening and would need support.
Managing Pain
Harper was at Lynn’s bedside; she was still unconscious. A doctor suggested a trial drug for Lynn to help her manage her addiction. This disgusted Harper as this drug came from the same company that produced the opiates that Lynn was addicted to. The man who ran the company went to Harper’s country club. In the sauna, Harper suggested he give the trial drug away for free. When the man scoffed at the idea, Harper threatened him.
Carrie visited Emily. Emily fought to have Carrie included in an experimental treatment. Carrie refused, but Emily didn’t understand because she thought Carrie was there for Emily to take care of. Carrie was actually there because assisted suicide was legal in D.C.
Reclaim Our Nation
Hannah was in trouble with the CIA and the FBI for killing Crawford. The FBI oversaw the case now, since it was domestic terrorism, but Eli argued that it was a global crisis. Hannah couldn’t stop him from looking into it more. When the FBI went to bust the white supremacist group, they found them all dead from a hemorrhaging virus, even though they were white. At the end of the episode, Eli approached Hannah in a panic.
