In the previous episode of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Commander Lawrence accepted June into his household, and Emily met up with Moira and Luke. In The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 Episode 2, June got caught up with the Marthas’ network, and Emily struggled with reaching out to her wife.
Aunt Lydia Returns
Aunt Lydia survived Emily’s attack, but she was still struggling to walk and in pain. After returning from the grocery, June walked into the sitting room where Aunt Lydia sat with Commander and Mrs. Lawrence. Aunt Lydia inquired about how June was getting on in the household. Mrs. Lawrence tried to answer but asked to go lie down. Commander Lawrence lied about the Ceremony going well; they hadn’t participated. Alone with June, Aunt Lydia asked what was wrong with Mrs. Lawrence, but June didn’t know.
When June was walking her to the door, Aunt Lydia told her she wanted to see her room. However, it was upstairs, and Aunt Lydia fell after struggling with climbing them. When June went to help her, Aunt Lydia shocked her with a cow prod. She knew that June had exchanged information with Alma at the grocery. Another Aunt took Lydia away in a wheelchair, and Lawrence wondered out loud about the voltage.
Moving People
The Marthas were trying to move another Martha, Alison, a former high school chemistry teacher, to make bombs for a resistance cell. June walked in on Cora and Beth arguing. Lawrence came in and caught Cora in a lie. June convinced him to let Alison stay. She wanted to help take her to the pickup location. Beth got June some Martha clothing and took Cora’s place. They made it to a part of town that Handmaids were not allowed in. Beth and June left Alison to wait, but as they exited the area, Guardians arrived.
At the Lawrences’, Alison came back with a shot Martha. They took her to the basement, but Lawrence caught Cora in another lie. Guardians surrounded the property and came in to look around. Mrs. Lawrence handled them in a lucid moment. When everything died down, June buried the dead Martha as Beth went to talk to Lawrence. He had sent Cora away because he didn’t like liars.
Eye Test
Luke and Moira were having Emily over for dinner. It hurt Luke to see that Emily hadn’t called her wife, Sylvia. Moira understood that it was because he saw June in Emily and would be hurt if she didn’t call him. Emily thought that June was stronger, but Moira disagreed.
Emily saw several doctors. Aside from high cholesterol and areas they wanted to keep an eye on, her doctor cleared her, with recommendations for a clitoral reconstruction surgeon and a therapist. At the eye doctor, Emily decided to finally call Sylvia.
