In the previous episode of Kingdom, the Haewon Cho Clan arrested all Confucian scholars on treason charges, Crown Prince Lee Chang set off for Dongnae, and the villagers in Jiyulheon were all turned into zombies. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap Kingdom season 1 episode 2!
It Is Too Quiet
Lee Chang and Mu-yeong were camping, and lamented the lack of variety in their meals. The next morning, they continued their trek to Dongnae, Chang quickly noticed how unusually quiet the area was. Mu-yeong noticed the gate leading to Jiyulheon up ahead and they made for it. The pair quickly noticed the state of disrepair the gate was in and that it was covered in blood. Mu-yeong dismounted and went to investigate, he had to climb over the wall as the gate was barred from the inside. After a few minutes, Mu-yeong opened the gate and Chang went inside. Inside Jiyulheon, they found the remnants of the massacre that had recently occurred. They sought help from a neighboring village and explained their findings. Chang was relieved that Physician Lee had not perished in the massacre.
Secret Corpses
The newly appointed magistrate was brought to see the corpses and he ordered an immediate investigation. Chang and Mu-yeong set out to find Physician Lee and were ready to scour the entirety of Dongnae to find him. Back in Hanyang, one of Lee Chang’s maids told the head of the scholars, that a corpse had been found in the king’s palace. The scholars resolved to use this information to destroy the Haewon Cho Clan and install Lee Chang as the new king. Chang and Mu-yeong arrived in Dongnae and immediately inquired about the location of Lee Seung-hui. The herbalist of Dongnae did not know anything about Lee’s location. But, he did tell them of a survivor who went to the Frozen Valley.
Honest Testimony
Chang and Mu-yeong went to Frozen Valley and found a woman, Seo-bi, inside of a cave. She attempted to explain what had happened to the people of Jiyulheon and warned them not to move the bodies. One of the other survivors of the Jiyulheon incident ran to the magistrate’s office and begged them to burn the corpses. But, the magistrate arrested him and ignored his claims that the corpses would awaken and attack people. Back in Frozen Valley, Chang decided to go with Seo-bi to the magistrate’s office and explain what happened in Jiyulheon. Chang returned to Jiyulheon to find evidence of Seo-bi’s claims, but he was attacked by the leader of the Haewon Cho Clan. Back with the magistrate, Seo-bi arrived and testified that the people of Jiyulheon would attack when night fell. Sundown came, the zombies awoke and the magistrate’s office was decimated. In Jiyulheon, Chang managed to escape after everyone else was killed by a zombie that had remained in the village. Chang walked out of Jiyulheong and saw the magistrate’s office was burning.
