It’s Thanksgiving on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. For the coven, it’s time for the Feast of Feasts, the holiday commemorating the self-sacrifice of Freya, a young woman who died in order for the Greendale coven to live the winter the witches were driven out of town. Each year, 14 witch families choose 1 member to represent the family in the lottery. One witch is selected to be the queen of the coven for three days, at the end of which the witch is killed and the rest of the coven feasts upon her flesh.
The Spellmans are chosen to participate this year. With Hilda excommunicated, Zelda says that she will represent the family in the lottery. Sabrina objects to the ritual and takes her aunt’s place in the lottery, hoping that she will be selected and that her aunt will raise objection. Instead, Prudence is selected as the queen and Sabrina the handmaiden, who has to attend to the queen’s every desire during the three days leading up to the feast.
“How Well Do You Know Your Roots?”
Wardwell assigns a project to the students at Baxter High. They are to find out their families’ roots in Greendale. Susie learns that her ancestor was a woman who was an ally to the witches in the hills of Greendale who lived and dressed like a man. Roz learns from her nana that their family was cursed by the witches with blindness, but in return have a supernatural gift she calls “the cunning”. Nana says that Roz should be coming into her cunning any time. Harvey asks his grandfather about the Kinkle family. Grandfather says that before the family changed their name to Kinkle, they were the Von Kunkles, the witch hunters who drove the witches out of Greendale and to their executions.
Shepherd and the Lamb
Sabrina tries to get Prudence to forego her crown as queen, but Prudence believes that she will be going to her eternal reward by sacrificing herself to the coven and the Dark Lord. Sabrina tries to convince Prudence that life is precious by bringing her to Baxter High and introducing her to Sabrina’s friends, to no effect. Wardwell tells Sabrina that there is one woman who was queen that turned her back on the crown. Wardwell leads Sabrina and the Weird Sisters into the woods to meet the hag.
The old witch says that her High Priest was using his position to rape and abuse. Rather than succumb to that, she ran. Prudence says Faustus is not like that, he has always treated her like a daughter. Sabrina pleads that he can still make mistakes, that the High Priest is not infallible. Prudence’s faith is unwavering.
Truth Cakes
Lady Blackwood arrives at the mortuary, raving and hysterical. She is stressed from performing an intense spell. Lady Blackwood says that she won’t let the Weird Sisters take what belongs to her own children. Sabrina tells Prudence that she thinks Lady Blackwood believes that the Weird Sisters are Faustus’ children and that she is trying to kill Prudence because of it. Prudence reluctantly agrees to a final meal, where Hilda’s truth cakes will be served for dessert. Lady Balckwood reveals that she did set up Prudence to win the lottery so that she’ll be murdered. When asked about the Weird Sisters, Faustus states that only Prudence is his daughter. Sabrina uses the information to blackmail Faustus into calling off the Feast of Feasts. As Faustus begins to do just that, another witch sacrifices herself and the famished coven feasts upon her flesh.
Von Kunkles
Harvey is forced to spend the holiday with his brother, dad, and grandfather. It is a Kinkle tradition to drink beer and go hunting. In the woods, Harvey refuses to shoot what they believe to be a deer, but is actually a familiar. Wardwell, Sabrina, and the Weird Sisters cloak the familiar as the Kinkles search for it. The Weird Sisters want to go after the descendants of Greendale’s original witch hunters, but Sabrina stops them, stating that Harvey is nothing like that. Without Prudence, the other two sisters construct voodoo dolls of Harvey and Tommy. When the two enter the mine the next day, the sisters smash the dolls with a stone.
