In the previous episode of HBO’s Camping, Kathryn and Walt took Orvis to the hospital while the rest of the group got drunk in town. Camping season 1 episode 3 opened with Jandice finding the ring Miguel was forced to buy in town.
Town Bear Lake
The men were scheduled to go fishing that day in Town Bear Lake. Joe didn’t want to go because he felt the other guys excluded him. Joe believed it was because they went to college together and Joe was the odd man out. Walt, George, and Miguel had their inside jokes and rapport, and whenever Joe tried to join in, it didn’t land or outright offended them. However, Joe made some progress after claiming that oatmeal raisin was the worst.
Walt had other things on his mind. He confessed to the guys that he and Kathryn hadn’t had sex for two years. George talked about the adventurous sex he and Nina-Joy had after an affair, and Miguel talked of being in the “discovery phase” with Jandice. Joe called them out for flaunting their sex lives in front of Walt, but it wasn’t received well. He then pointed out that none of them knew anything about him that couldn’t be found on his LinkedIn page.
P***** Power
Jandice joined Carleen, who was knitting in the field. She encouraged Carleen to change up her look, starting with getting a tan, plucking her eyebrows, and chopping off her hair. Carleen told Jandice about how she met Joe. She was his first wife’s hospice nurse. She confessed her hair was so long because she had always admired Cher for her strong personality. Jandice gave her a long bob, and when the guys came back, Joe noticed and complimented her.
The Reckoning
Kathryn sat with Orvis while making a forgiveness present for Nina-Joy. She tried to play I Spy with Orvis, but he really wasn’t interested. Orvis made his way back into the Jodells’ tent, and Kathryn only noticed when she had completed the necklace. She found Orvis on Walt’s iPad, watching a porn video.
When Walt got back with the fish he caught, she confronted him about his search history. She also started unbuttoning her blouse to show him the necklace she made, but he took it as a sign she wanted to have sex. Kathryn slapped him and told him to put his pants back on.
The Announcement
That night around the campfire, Kathryn had an announcement. She wanted to give Nina-Joy the necklace she had made. Unfortunately, Miguel and Jandice interrupted. Jandice had assumed the ring she found was meant to be an engagement ring, and Miguel reluctantly went with it. Jandice told the group they were engaged, upstaging Kathryn yet again.
