In the previous episode of The Purge, Lila killed Rick and Jenna’s neighbor in self defense, Jane was rescued from David’s party by Joe and Miguel, while Penelope escaped into the forest. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap The Purge season 1 episode 8 ‘The Giving Time Is Here!’
Rick, Jenna, and Lila
Lila and Rick conversed about the events of the night so far, while Jenna went to refresh herself in the restroom. Lila expressed nervousness towards her impending return to her familial home. She then went off to find solace in private contemplation. Rick brought Lila a freshly prepared grilled cheese sandwich, and she was confused over the meaning of this gesture. Lila told Rick that the deal with her father would still go through as she was now the CEO of the company.
Jenna walked in and dismissed Rick from the room. Lila attempted to convince Jenna to leave Rick for her, but Jenna refused. Lila was unable to comprehend Jenna’s rejection of her romantic advances. Rick heard someone banging on the door, and it was Ross’ wife, Carol. Carol got attacked and savagely beaten by a random Purger. Lila and Rick exchanged barbs over their individual responses to Carol. Lila attempted to bribe Rick into leaving Jenna, but he resisted. Rick was ambushed and threatened with a gun by Lila, Jenna came in time to try to talk Lila out of it. Unfortunately, Lila got off a shot, but she missed as Jenna stabbed her.
Miguel, Penelope, Joe, and Jane
The reunited brother and sister arrived back at the bar ran by Pete the cop. Pete welcomed the two back to the bar and he was happy to finally get to meet Penelope. Miguel expressed disdain for Rex’s line of work and then left to get Penelope some snacks from the back of the bar. Pete and Penelope then discussed the deaths of their family members on Purge Night. Pete offered Penelope a change of clothes from the supply he had in the back, Penelope went to go look for a suitable outfit. Penelope explained the appeal of the cult to Pete. Pete revealed to Penelope that Tabis, the leader of the cult, was a lackey of the NFFA.
This revelation sparked Penelope, she wanted to track down the bus and put an end to Tabis. In the bar restroom, a random man constructed a gun out of 3D printed plastic. The man was attempting to kill Pete, but Miguel tackled him before any harm could come to him. Penelope left the bar alone in search of the bus. She found the bus and told the other members of the cult the truth about Tabis. At that moment, Joe walked out of the bar and shot both Tabis and the bus driver. Joe was not as nice as he seemed, he had tied up and gagged both Penelope and Jane as well as all of the other women he had ‘saved’ that night.
