Fans are wondering if Anna Delvey, born Anna Sorokin, from Netflix’s Inventing Anna is still in prison and what she’s doing today. Delvey became popular for conning her way into the lives of New York’s wealthiest and for swindling money from banks posing as a German heiress. She scammed banks, hotels, and prominent figures from the city of around $270,000. Delvey made international headlines in 2018 following her arrest and then again in 2022 after Shonda Rhimes-produced Inventing Anna premiered on Netflix.
In April 2019, a jury in Manhattan found Anna Delvey guilty of eight charges. These included one count of attempted grand larceny, three counts of grand larceny, and four counts of theft services. Delvey received a prison sentence of 4 to 12 years and got early release on parole in February 2021. Shortly after, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took her into custody. They cited that the con artist had overstayed her visa. The ICE only granted her release in October 2022, and she has since been living in New York City.
What is Anna Delvey from Netflix’s Inventing Anna doing today?
According to People Magazine, Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, remains under house arrest today. She is now living in an apartment in an East Village building in New York City. The former inmate also wears an ankle monitor as part of the release conditions. Moreover, the conditions forbid her from leaving the house at all. She gets all her groceries delivered and a personal trainer visits her apartment as she cannot leave for the gym. The only exception is her weekly meetings with ICE officials. As part of the deal, she is also now permitted to use social media platforms.
Despite her infamy, Anna Delvey’s case has helped her earn projects, including a reality TV show called Delvey’s Dinner Club. The series will chronicle her life in the East Village apartment where she invited over actors, musicians, socialites, and journalists, among other prominent figures despite having to live under an array of restrictions. A 2023 release stated that Delvey will host these guests over intimate evenings. They will have private chefs prepare for the occasion and make conversation with the guests about her “experience within the criminal justice system, her strategy to rebuild her image, and her plans for the future.”
Town & Country reported that besides the TV show, Anna Delvey is also the host of her own podcast today. She launched the podcast, The Anna Delvey Show, on Spotify in June 2023. Guests such as Whitney Cummings, Julia Fox, Jeremy Harris, Emily Ratajkowski, and Kenny Schachter, featured in her podcast. These stars reportedly visited her apartment to record their sessions with the former inmate. Delvey told AP News that she intended to remake her image using her podcast, claiming she has “learned so much” and has also “changed.”
Later, in July 2023, Anna Delvey also ventured into the music industry with the release of her debut single. The track titled, “What the Hell?” is a collab with TikTok star Brooke Butler and is also the title track for her podcast. Deadline stated that this song includes “never-before-heard audio from Delvey including a recording of a phone call she made while imprisoned on Riker’s Island.”
In addition to these projects, Delvey has maintained a social life for herself even after facing a criminal conviction. In January 2023, she celebrated her 32nd birthday while under house arrest in her East Village, New York City, apartment. She hosted guests which included stars among other prominent figures and made them sign NDAs. The party consisted of guests such as Cynthia Rowley and her daughter, Rachel Rabbit White, Cat Marnell, Ben Widdicombe, Dr. Alexander Blinski, and many others.
Inventing Anna is currently streaming on Netflix. The series looks into the case against Anna Delvey/Anna Sorokin which landed her in prison.
