In July 2004, authorities discovered the dead body of a man named Thad Reynolds outside his workplace in northwest Georgia. Some outlets reported that the killer stabbed him multiple times after the victim reached the distribution center where he worked. The police initiated an investigation and arrested two people for the slaying. One of the arrested persons was Reynold’s wife, Michelle Reynolds, and the other was Pastor Scott Harper. The gruesome murder case will feature in this week’s episode of Dateline: Unforgettable. It will air on Thursday, July 25, at 8 p.m. ET.
According to WSB-TV Atlanta, authorities arrested Michelle Reynolds and Scott Harper just a few days after the slaying. Per the police, the killer stabbed Thad Reynolds 19 times. The Rome News-Tribune reported that the killer attacked him when he was close to his car. Investigators noted that one of Reynold’s colleagues found his body on the floor and called 911. After police arrived at the scene, they discovered a sheath to a hunting knife beside the victim’s car. Moreover, a witness told the investigators that they saw a red minivan leaving the scene around the time of the crime.
Citing the officials, WSB-TV stated that Reynolds’ wife had an extra-marital affair with Harper after meeting at the church they both attended. They began a relationship and planned to kill Thad Reynolds. Meanwhile, WFMY News noted that the duo met each other and used different means of communication to plan the murder. Four years later, in October 2008, Harper pleaded guilty to the murder of Thad Reynolds and took a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. In January 2010, Michelle Reynolds also pleaded guilty in the murder case. Both the accused received capital punishment and are serving their respective sentences at prisons in Georgia.
Thad Reynolds’ Killers: Where are Michelle Reynolds and Scott Harper now?
As mentioned above, Michelle Reynolds and Scott Harper received punishment for their crimes. According to another report by The Rome News-Tribune, the former pastor pleaded guilty to felony murder, aggravated battery, and malice murder. Subsequently, the court sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Scott Harper is currently serving his sentence at Phillips State Prison in Georgia.
Meanwhile, Thad Reynolds’ wife Michelle Reynolds pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, per The Atlanta-Journal Constitution The court sentenced her to 20 years in prison. Michelle Reynolds is currently serving her sentence at Pulaski State Prison in Georgia.
