“20 Year Anniversary: Sharee Miller” is a special episode of Snapped on Oxygen that will air on Sunday, May 13, 2024, at 6 p.m. ET. A synopsis of the episode reads, “20 years in the making, this special reexamines the Internet’s first murder trial, revealing a twisted seductress with a skill for manipulation; after time in prison, she has a second chance at life and love with a stunning final update in her case.”
Sharee Miller was convicted of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the death of her husband, Bruce Miller. According to Michigan Department of Corrections, Sharee is currently incarcerated at the Huron Valley Women’s Prison. While in prison, the convict got engaged to Michael Denoyer and eventually married him in 2008, per Fox 2 News.
Before Bruce and Sharee Miller got married, the latter reportedly joined an internet chat room where she met Jerry Cassaday. Cassaday claimed to be a former homicide detective who was then working at a casino in Reno, Nevada. According to ABC News, even after marrying Bruce, Sharee had an extramarital affair with Cassaday. She then fabricated elaborate lies about Bruce being an abusive husband and having mafia ties.
Sharee even told Cassaday that she was pregnant with his child, sending him photos of her bulged-out stomach, which he assumed was a baby bump. A few days later, she told him that after finding out about the pregnancy, Bruce beat her up, which led to a miscarriage. Moreover, she faked another pregnancy and alleged that Bruce forced her to abort. Enraged by the situation, Cassaday agreed to plan Bruce’s murder with Sharee.
How much prison time did Sharee Miller get?
Sharee Miller was sentenced to life in prison. Her conviction came long after Bruce Miller’s murder because of several factors. After Jerry Cassaday traveled to Michigan to conspire with Sharee, Bruce Miller was shot in the neck and the upper back at his place of work. The case went cold after the police wrongly accused an employee of Bruce of killing him. The employee, John Hutchinson, had previously borrowed $2000 from Bruce and denied any involvement in the murder.
Then, in February 2000, Jerry Cassady died by suicide and left behind a briefcase. It consisted of multiple key pieces of evidence about the killing of Bruce Miller, including hotel bookings, airline tickets, and chat messages and emails exchanged between him and Sharee Miller. Fox 2 News reported that although Bruce was killed in November 1999, Sharee soon started seeing someone new.
Following Sharee’s arrest and subsequent trial, the chat messages proved to be crucial. She claimed to be innocent and alleged that the emails were forged. However, the court found her guilty of all charges. In 2016, while she was in prison, she admitted her guilt and claimed that she was done lying. Sharee also expressed that she did not want to cause any more pain to Bruce and Jerry Cassady’s families, per KSRO.
