In October 2018, authorities revealed that a man named Robert Brashers killed three women in the 1990s. The police confirmed the identity of the killer through advanced DNA technology. Aside from these slayings, Brashers’ has a long history of criminal activities. Reports indicate that his crime spree started in the 1980s, and Brashers went behind bars on numerous occasions.
According to Greenville Online, police apprehended and convicted him of assaulting a woman in 1985. The publication also mentioned that the culprit was imprisoned for three-and-a-half years. Then, in 1992, the police arrested him again for having a pistol and a stolen vehicle. Robert Brashers went to prison again and came out in February 1997. However, the intensity of his crimes elevated after his arrest in 1992. Brashers sexually assaulted a couple of women in 1997 and 1998. Although authorities apprehended Robert Brashers once again in 1998, he was released later on.
Is Robert Brashers still alive?
Robert Brashers killed himself in 1999 after being surrounded by police officers. Greenville Online reported that authorities received information about a stolen vehicle in the parking of a motel in Kennett, Missouri. The officers reached the motel and entered Brashers’ room. As per the outlet, the culprit hid under a bed and had a gun on him.
Police tried negotiating with the accused for hours, but Robert Brashers eventually shot himself in the standoff and died six days later. In 2018, law enforcement agencies linked him to three murders that took place in the 1990s. According to Oxygen, Brashers’ DNA matched the evidence found at the crime scenes and exhumed his body for the same. Citing police’s statement, NBC News noted, “Make no mistake about this gentleman: He is a serial rapist and a serial killer, but no more.”
The news of him being a rapist and a serial killer came as a shock to many, including his daughter. In an interview given to KFVS 12 News, Robert Brashers’ daughter stated that she couldn’t believe her father lived a double life. She said, “My father was a serial killer. There are people who live to kill. And then there are people who have double lives that kill every now and then, obviously. That was my father. He was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
