“The Disappearance of Maddi Kingsbury” is the forthcoming episode of CBS 48 Hours that will be aired on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 pm ET. It will delve into the vanishing of Maddi Kingsbury and the subsequent indictment of Adam Fravel, her former partner.
On June 9, 2023, Adam Fravel, aged 29, faced accusations of two counts of second-degree murder related to the passing of Maddi Kingsbury, a 26-year-old mother of two and a researcher at the Mayo Clinic. Fravel, who was the father of Kingsbury’s children, was the last person known to have seen her before they dropped off their children at daycare. After that, Kingsbury disappeared.
This triggered a two-month-long search, which ended on June 7, when authorities found her remains. Later, Adam Fravel was also charged with the first-degree murder of Kingsbury, Fox 9 reported.
Maddi Kingsbury’s remains were found off Highway 43 in north Mabel, Minnesota. The police reportedly gathered relevant digital evidence to track down the location of the remains. Although a previous search did occur at the site, the concealment of Kingsbury’s remains made it difficult to find. Her body had been wrapped in a bedsheet and closed with a black tape, CBS News reported.
The medical examiner’s reports, cited by Fox 9, determined that the manner and cause of Maddi Kingsbury’s death were homicide and homicidal violence. Authorities attempted to trace the whereabouts of Kingsbury’s vehicle in the hours following her last sighting. Fravel informed them that he had borrowed her car and driven around before returning to her residence, where, he asserted, Kingsbury was nowhere to be found.
When will Adam Fravel be tried for Maddi Kingsbury’s murder?
Adam Fravel has not been convicted yet. WXOW reported in December 2023 that Winona County might hold the trial in either October or November 2024. As of now, Fravel is charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. Meanwhile, Fravel filed for several changes in how the trial would be held.
According to CBS News, Adam Fravel requested that the charge of first-degree murder be dismissed. His attorneys said that the accusation was not based on enough evidence. He also requested a change in the venue of the trial. He wanted the case to be taken out of Winona court. This was because of the extensive community attention and media coverage that it attracted.
His attorneys also said that Fravel’s statements to the Rushford Police Department were taken without reading him his Miranda rights. They requested that his statement to them not be considered evidence in court. Another motion was raised to avoid the presentation of evidence collected in Maddi Kingsbury’s therapy and counseling sessions.
Adam Fravel and Maddi Kingsbury’s children were 5 and 2 years old at the time of the murder. They have been in the custody of the Winona County Health and Human Services Department, as per court instructions. Moreover, Adam Fravel never had custodial rights over his children even before Maddi’s death, according to a report by CNN.
The upcoming CBS 48 Hours episode, “The Disappearance of Maddi Kingsbury,” will be aired on CBS on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 pm ET.
