From the mid-1950s to the late 1990s, a serial killer named David Parker Ray abducted and tortured several women. As per reports, Ray, popularly known as the Toy Box Killer, sexually assaulted and murdered more than 60 women over three decades. However, his crime spree came to an end after a woman managed to run away from Ray.

In March 1999, David Parker Ray kidnapped a sex worker named Cynthia Vigil-Jaramillo in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to KRQE News, an affiliate of CBS and FOX, Ray dragged Cynthia to the back of the RV. He handcuffed her to a cabinet. The outlet also mentioned that Cynthia “unscrewed the cabinet” and waited for the right time to escape. She tried escaping, but Ray slammed his feet on the brakes and stopped her from escaping. Subsequently, his accomplices got to the back of the RV with a gun.

In an interview with KRQE News, Cynthia said, “I was loose, my hands were tied behind my back, but I was loose. She came to the back with a gun. He pulled over and then he came back.” Moreover, David Parker Ray took her to his torture chamber and strapped her to a chair before torturing her for hours. After three days of torture, Cynthia got the chance and escaped Ray’s chamber of torture. Covered in blood, she entered a trailer and asked for help. An elderly couple helped her and called 911.

The authorities finally arrived and caught David Parker Ray, along with his accomplice, as per KRQE News. While talking to the publication, Cynthia also noted that she endured electric shocks during her captivity. The court sentenced Ray to more than 223 years in prison, per KRQE.

How did the Toy Box Killer torture his victims?

As mentioned above, the authorities captured Ray and his accomplice after Cynthia Vigil managed to escape the torture chamber. After the arrest, the police searched his home and trailer. As per The Sun, the police found many disturbing things during their search operation. The outlet also mentioned that before torturing them, Ray would play a spine-chilling pre-recorded message in his voice. The victims would hear Ray boasting about sexually assaulting women.

On the other hand, Oxygen reported that Ray would tell his victims what he would do to them and how painful it would be. Citing the recording, Oxygen noted, “Okay, b—h. We both know what you’ve been brought here for. I’m going to use you for a sex slave. And it’s going to be painful as hell. That’s the way I want it to be.” Meanwhile, The Sun reported that at the end of the tape, he would tell the victims that he would drug them with sodium pentothal so that they wouldn’t remember anything.

Court sentenced Ray to more than 223 years in prison

After that, he would violently rape them with homemade sex toys and instruments. The Sun also revealed the things discovered inside David Parker Ray’s torture chamber. As per the outlet, one of the victims saw chains, whips, clamps, bottles of oil, and metal bars. Meanwhile, the investigators also found a cabinet in the trailer containing syringes and chemicals. The aforementioned publication also noted that it took him $100,00 to construct the torture chamber.

Moreover, the police discovered videotapes of David Parker Ray torturing hundreds of women, per The Sun. Shockingly, he admitted to killing several women in those videos. The court sentenced him to more than 223 years in prison. However, the culprit died in prison because of a heart attack in 2002, per KRQE, whereas his accomplice served nearly 20 years before her release in 2019.
