“The Wrong Woman” is an episode of ID’s See No Evil that will air on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET. It follows the murder of Alisha Canales-McGuire and the investigation that followed to reveal a botched murder-for-hire plot.

24-year-old Alisha Canales-McGuire was shot to death on the morning of September 20, 2017, at her sister Amanda Canales’ home in Everett. She was there to look after her sister’s children, who were asleep inside the house. Alisha was found dead by Abigail Ruggles, the children’s stay-in nanny who was helping Alisha take care of the kids.

Law enforcement declared that Alisha Canales-McGuire was killed while the door was partially open. The killer reportedly shot at least seven times from outside the door to inside. Four of the recovered bullets were identified as nine millimeters, and all of the bullets were shot from the same firearm. The cause of death was identified as multiple gunshot wounds to the head and the trunk. Five shots struck her, and two of them showed gunpowder stippling injury, according to court documents.

Investigation revealed that Amanda Canales, the victim’s sister, was the actual intended victim of the hit. According to CBS News, a 20-year-old Tacoma man, Jerradon Phelps, and a 17-year-old Spokane girl, Alexis Hale, were reportedly paid by Amanda’s ex-husband, Kevin Lewis, to kill her. However, when Alisha opened the door that morning, the killers mistook her for Amanda and shot her down before Ruggles found her lying in a pool of blood.

Who was convicted of Alisha Canales-McGuire’s murder?

Kevin Lewis was found guilty of aggravated first-degree murder. Jerradon Phelps and Alexis Hale also pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and were sentenced to 31⅔ and 15 years in prison, respectively. Lewis was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for the murder of Alisha Canales-McGuire, Herald Net reported. He reportedly paid the two killers $2,400 to murder his ex-wife.

Amanda Canales and Kevin Lewis were married in 2009 and had three children. In February 2017, Canales reportedly moved out of Lewis’ home and into a duplex in Everett. Although he tried to convince her to move back in with him, she refused, and according to court documents, this made him angry. He also showed up at Canales’ house unannounced one morning. This made her file for a protection order to keep him away from her and the children.

After repeated appeals to the court, the family court ordered the children to live with Canales. Lewis was also asked to pay her child support. On September 19, 2017, Lewis had a supervised visit with his children. During the visit, he reportedly didn’t interact much with the children. Amanda was out of town at the time due to a business trip. Abigail Ruggles and Alisha Canales-McGuire were left in charge of the children. According to CBS News, Alisha was also newly married at the time of her death.

See No Evil’s “The Wrong Woman” will be aired on ID on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET. It will reveal details of the murder as well as the events that occurred before Kevin Lewis ordered the murder of his ex-wife.
