Michigan School Shooting Update: What Was Jennifer Crumbley Found Guilty Of?

A recent BBC News report suggests that Jennifer Crumbley has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. This is the first time in US history that a parent was convicted of manslaughter over a mass shooting carried out by their child. Jennifer Crumbley is the mother of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Robert Crumbley.

Prosecutors accused the 45-year-old Jennifer of being “negligent” and accused her of allowing her son to own a gun. Moreover, they even accused her of “ignoring warning signs” related to her son’s mental health. Jennifer’s husband, James, is also facing a separate trial on the same charges. However, he has pleaded not guilty.

The court charged Jennifer Crumbley with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, with each charge having a maximum sentence of 15 years. After passing the verdict, the parents of the victims expressed relief. Buck Myre, the father of the shooting victim Tate Myre, stated, “The People spoke! You can agree or disagree with the people, but this is how the system is supposed to work.”

Reportedly, the main question of this entire trial was if Jennifer Crumbley could have prevented the tragic 2021 Oxford High School shooting. According to FOX12 Detroit, Ethan’s parents bought him a gun just days before the shooting.

When did the Michigan School Shooting take place?

The Michigan School Shooting took place on November 30, 2021.
