On May 31, 2014, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser stabbed their friend Payton Leutner 19 times in Waukesha, Wisconsin. At the time, all three girls were 12 years of age. The duo lured Leutner into the woods and intended to kill her. Fortunately, Leutner survived the brutal Slender Man stabbing and crawled to a nearby road, where some people found her.
Authorities asked Leutner about the incident and learned about the girls. Five hours later, the police apprehended Weier and Geyser and interrogated them. During the arrest, the girls told the investigators that they were going to live with the Slender Man, a fictional supernatural character.
The authorities also alleged that Geyser exhibited disturbing behavior while talking to the experts during the interrogation. At first, the judge found Geyser incompetent and suspended all the charges. However, after a psychiatric evaluation, she was charged with attempted first-degree homicide while Weier was charged with attempted second-degree homicide.
The jury found both the girls guilty in the Slender Man stabbing case. The court sentenced Anissa Weier to 25 years in a mental hospital. Meanwhile, the court sentenced Morgan Geyser to 40 years in mental in a mental hospital after she pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree homicide. According to ABC News, Weier has been released from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute and is under supervision. On the other hand, Geyser is still booked at the aforementioned mental health facility.
Slender Man stabbing: How did the duo attack Payton Leutner?
As mentioned above, the attack happened on May 31, 2014, and severely injured Payton Leutner. As per reports, Weier, Geyser, and Leutner had a sleepover at Geyser’s house. The girls lured Leutner into the woods and Geyser stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife while Weier stood nearby and watched. Citing a medical expert, ABC News’ 20/20 reported that Leutner was stabbed on “her chest, her abdomen, arm and leg.”
During the investigation, Geyser said Slender Man allegedly told her to kill someone. Additionally, she noted that if she doesn’t kill anyone, the fictional supernatural character will kill her. The Slender Man stabbing is one of the disturbing cases in US history. It’s an example of how the Dark Web can influence the minds of young children.
A documentary based on the Slender Man stabbing, titled Beware the Slender Man, was released in 2016 and is currently available for streaming on Max.
