Daniel Brophy was preparing for work at the Oregon Culinary Institute when he was killed on the morning of June 2, 2018. The 63-year-old had been employed as a chef at the Portland-based school since 2006. Students found him fatally shot in the kitchen sometime around 8:30 a.m.
U.S. Sun‘s report mentioned that Daniel died of two gunshot wounds, one to the chest and the other to the back. Police claimed both bullets had pierced his heart. Moreover, first responders found all his belongings on him. These items included his wallet, car keys, and cell phone. The outlet confirmed that the victim’s wife, Nancy Brophy, first came under suspicion three months after he was killed. She has previously written am essay titled “How to murder your husband.”
At first, Nancy had told detectives that she was at home when her 63-year-old husband was shot to death. However, surveillance footage proved that she drove her minivan in the school’s direction that morning after 7 a.m. Prosecutors claimed that she was motivated by money problems and her husband’s life insurance policy to commit the crime, as per CBS News.
Police even reportedly claimed that the suspect owned a gun similar to the one used to murder her chef husband. Surveillance footage also placed her at the crime scene when the murder occurred. However, authorities never found the gun in question.
In June 2022, a jury convicted Nancy Brophy in her husband’s shooting death. She was then sentenced to life in prison with parole after 25 years.
