According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, this incident occurred in the parking lot of the Manhattan Village Mall on Sepulveda Boulevard and Marine Avenue.  When Ganz was outside his patrol car, the gunman exited from his own car and fired at the officer. Even though he tried to protect himself, he could not survive.

Martin Ganz was accompanied by his 12-year-old nephew. The child was in the victim’s car when this happened. The killer even attempted to shoot him but the boy escaped unharmed.

The tragic death of Martin Ganz will be covered in the upcoming episode of The Real Murders of Los Angeles. The episode is titled Blue Bloodshed and will air on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 9:00 p.m. ET on Oxygen.

What happened to the man who killed Officer Martin Ganz?

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, the man suspected of killing Martin Ganz was arrested after eight months. Officials arrested Roger Hoan Brady in connection with another murder. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. However, in December 1998, the accused was sentenced to death for taking the life of Ganz.

At the time of his passing, Martin Ganz was engaged to a courtroom clerk named Pamela Ham. According to Daily Breeze, she remembers the last time she spoke to the man she was going to marry.

She said, “He said, ‘Well, Don and I went down to the pier and took some pictures. It’s pretty quiet out so I’m trying to find some stuff to show him.” She added, “We said I love you to each other and that was the last time I heard his voice.”
