In recent news related to the Gilgo Beach Serial Killer, the suspect’s wife Asa Ellerup made an appearance in court for the first time. Aged 59, Rex Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, came to the Arthur M. Cromarty Courthouse in Riverhead, Long Island, in a silver Mercedes. Furthermore, she was spotted with a lavalier microphone and also a Peacock documentary crew.
According to The New York Post, Asa Ellerup wore a teal top, blue cardigan, and slacks. She was even smiling and laughing, and held her head high while entering the court. The 59-year-old filed for divorce from her husband on July 19. However, they were both seen smiling at each other.
The defense attorney furthermore hinted that Rex Heuermann’s wife even visited him in prison last week. He said, “She doesn’t believe he committed these acts or is capable of committing these acts.” He further added, “So [did she visit him in jail]? Answer … the fact that his wife, his family member, was able to see him, and they talked, that was important to him.” He concluded by saying, “He indicated that he was very happy to see her. I can tell you that.”
Asa Ellerup looked way calmer during her first court outing compared to when she first learned that her soon-to-be ex-husband was the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer. Then-Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison explained that Ellerup was baffled when she first learned that Heuermann might have murdered several women. He stated, “When we told the wife, she was shocked.”
What are the Gilgo Beach serial killings?
Between the years 1996 to 2011, officials discovered the remains of 11 people in Gilgo Beach, which is located on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. Most of the deceased were sex workers, who advertised themselves on the website, Craigslist.
However, it was only in July 2023 that officials managed to arrest a suspect named Rex Heuermann.
