The man who is suspected of taking the lives of several people in Gilgo Beach was arrested by officials in July 2023. His name is Rex Heuermann and he is a 59-year-old architect. Even though cops have been hunting for this dreaded serial killer for years, it was only in March 2022 that this man became a prime suspect.
According to ABC News, cops tracked Heuermann’s Chevrolet Avalanche. Furthermore, a witness to one of the suspect’s victims said that he spotted the Chevrolet Avalanche near the victim’s home.
In January 2023, investigators finally found a DNA match and arrested Heuermann in Manhattan. Cops even took the help of phone tracking to nab the suspect.

How many people died in the Gilgo Beach serial killings?
The remains of 11 people were discovered in Gilgo Beach, which is located in Long Island, New York. The killings took place between 1996 to 2011. Most of the victims were sex workers who enlisted themselves on the website, Craigslist. Furthermore, this serial killer came to be known as Long Island Serial Killer aka LISK.
Even though 11 women lost their lives, the most infamous cases were that of “The Gilgo Four”. The Gilgo Four were four victims of the Long Island Serial Killer who were discovered very close to each other. The names of these four deceased women were Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Costello, and Megan Waterman.
The last time Melissa Barthelemy was seen alive was on July 12, 2009. She was 24 years old at the time she died. 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes was last seen alive on July 9, 2007, while 22-year-old Megan Waterman was last spotted alive on June 6, 2010. At the time of Amber Costello’s death, she was 27 years old. She was heavily addicted to drugs and relied on sex work to support her addiction.
