Was Jeffrey Dahmer in the Army?

If the notoriety of Jeffrey Dahmer wasn’t terrifying enough, the 2022 Netflix true-crime anthology series titled, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has infamized the serial killer all over the world. Jeffrey Dahmer aka the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster was an American Serial killer and sex offender who took the lives of seventeen males between 1978 and 1991.

Apart from killing them, Dahmer also committed necrophilia. Furthermore, he even cannibalized his victims and preserved parts of their bodies. He received sixteen life sentences for his crimes on February 17, 1992. On November 28, 1994, while in prison, an inmate named Christopher Scarver, bludgeoned him to death using a metal bar.

However, one of the most shocking facts about the Milwaukee Cannibal was that he served in the U.S. Army from July 1979 to March 1981.

Why did the U.S. Army relieve Jeffrey Dahmer of his duties?

According to Women’s Health, Jeffrey Dahmer was posted in West Germany during his years of service. He was a medic and was supposed to serve for three whole years. Shockingly, a couple of months prior to his deployment, he had already committed his first murder. His first victim was an 18-year-old boy named Steven Hicks.

After majoring in business at Ohio State University, his father Lionel pestered him to join the army. According to The Cinemaholic, he received his training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. The work he did while in Germany was similar to a nurse’s aide. Unfortunately, his time here was short-lived as he was announced unsuitable for military service due to alcohol abuse. Dahmer began drinking heavily when he was only 14 years old.

According to Distractify, he was an “average or slightly above average” soldier. As per The Sun, he even sexually assaulted two men during his time in West Germany.
