Since Alex Murdaugh‘s murder conviction, the attorney and his legal family from South Carolina’s low country have been in the spotlight.
In July 2022, Alex, who came from a long line of attorneys, attracted widespread attention when authorities charged him with the murders of his wife, Maggie, and youngest son, Paul Murdaugh. Since then, authorities have accused him of stealing nearly $8.5 million from his clients at his law firm.
Ever since the case came out, there has been much anticipation among people to know about his personal life, including details about his sons, Buster and Paul Murdaugh, and their whereabouts.
Alex Murdaugh reportedly killed Paul to save himself from fraud allegations
Alex Murdaugh had two sons, Buster Murdaugh and Paul Murdaugh, with whom he shared a close relationship. Buster is the oldest son and always had the aspirations to become like his father. Meanwhile, Paul Murdaugh was the opposite. Born on April 14, 1999, Paul had different plans for himself.
However, things took a dark turn when he started drinking and became a part of a tragic accident in 2019. In the hours before the accident, Paul Murdaugh used his brother’s ID to purchase alcohol at a convenience store. Paul and his then-girlfriend, Morgan Doughty, along with three couples, including Mallory Beach and her boyfriend, met at Murdaugh’s grandfather’s Chechesee River house. They boarded a center console boat to travel to an oyster roast.
During return trip, they stopped at a dockside bar in Beaufort, where Paul and his friends consumed shots. Paul’s behavior became erratic, and the other passengers requested that he let someone else drive the boat. However, he declined their request. Unfortunately, the boat hit a piling on the bridge to Parris Island, and the impact resulted in Mallory Beach’s death. Paul Murdaugh was charged with three felony counts, including boating under the influence and boating under the influence causing death.
But that’s not all, authorities have also accused Paul’s older brother, Buster, of killing a person before the entire Alex Murdaugh case began. Reports have claimed that Buster killed Stephen Smith, a man with whom he was in a relationship. When Alex Murdaugh and other family members became aware of their relationship, the situation deteriorated. In 2015, Stephen was found dead in the middle of a road in Hampton County. Since then, numerous reports have alleged that Buster was responsible for Stephen Smith’s death.
Buster Murdaugh is currently living with his girlfriend, Brooklynn White, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Meanwhile, Paul Murdaugh was allegedly killed by his father on June 7, 2021. He was 22.
