The murder of Brad McGarry was tragic because it was not done by someone who despised him. In fact, the crime was committed by someone who he was in love with. In May 2017, 43-year-old McGarry’s body was discovered in the basement of his home in Bellaire, Ohio. The officials initially believed that the intent of the crime was burglary. However, upon further inspection, it was revealed that it was a setup to hide something more sinister.
Brad McGarry was shot twice in the head by his own best friend. However, the murderer, whose name was David Kinney, was more than just Brad’s best friend.

Brad McGarry’s murder: How did he die?
Brad McGarry was a gay man who worked in a coal mine. When his body was discovered in his basement, he was in a gruesome pool of blood. When the police first began investigating the case, they were sure that it was a botched attempt at burglary. Eventually, they discovered that it was a plot to hide the truth.
As officials kept investigating, they got to learn about a man named DJ. Brad was apparently having an affair with DJ. He was deeply in love with him as the affair was going on for years. Unfortunately, DJ was married and Brad wanted him to end things with his wife and be with him.
DJ was identified as Brad McGarry’s own best friend, David Kinney. Even though it was hard to make Kinney confess to his crime, he eventually revealed that he took Brad’s life. Kinney claimed that the only reason he pulled the trigger was in self-defense. However, investigators and cops believed that the true motive behind the crime was to cover the fact that Kinney’s affair was homosexual in nature.
David Kinney was arrested on May 9, 2023, and is currently serving life imprisonment.
