Meghan Markle shares her experience with postpartum preeclampsia
Suits star Meghan Markle is candid about sharing a rare condition that she faced after giving birth, known as postpartum preeclampsia. The condition occurs when a mother has high blood pressure and excess protein in her urine soon after childbirth. As per the Mayo Clinic, “Preeclampsia is a similar condition that develops during pregnancy and typically resolves with the birth of the baby.”
In Markle’s new podcast, Markle talked to Whitney Wolfe Herd about how both of them faced the same condition, stating, “It’s so rare and so scary. And you’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly. And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people, mostly for your children, but those things are huge medical scares.”
Whitney Wolfe Herd also shared the huge consequences of the condition. She described them by saying, “I mean life or death, truly.” Markle, however, did not specify whether she went through the condition with her first child, Prince Archie, or with Princess Lilibet.
Along with the struggles of postpartum preeclampsia, Wolfe Herd also talked about Markle’s time living with the royals. They recalled the moment when she had to “debut” her first child just days after giving birth.
Wolfe Herd shares, “I mean, I’ll never forget the image of you after you delivered Archie, and the whole world was waiting for his debut.” She added, “I was either just becoming or about to become a new mom, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, how is this woman doing this? How is this woman putting on heels and going and debuting a child in this, you know, beautiful outfit in front of the entire world?'”
