Kate Upton and Alexandra Daddario battle over Matt Barr in The Layover trailer

Having made his directorial debut with the acclaimed 2014 drama Rudderless, actor-turned-director William H. Macy is back with a very different film. For his second film, Macy is directing Kate Upton and Alexandra Daddario in the R-rated road trip comedy The Layover. Check out the just-released The Layover trailer in the player below!

In The Layover, Daddario and Upton play a pair of lifelong best friends who decide to avoid their problems by taking a vacation only to find that their plane has been rerouted due to a hurricane warning. To make matters worse, the two friends find themselves in a hilarious battle for the same guy (Matt Barr) during an extended layover in St. Louis.

“Kate Upton is a remarkable human being,” Daddario previously told CS about The Layover. “I just adore her and I think that our relationship will translate on screen because we’re just getting along so well. She’s outrageously hilarious and really intelligent. We’re having a great time. I’m very excited to see the movie. It’s funny. It’s raunchy. It’s very interesting being directed by an actor. It’s very different than I expected. His instincts are coming from an actor’s point of view. I loved ‘Rudderless’ and it’s really cool that William H. Macy is directing a comedy. It’s sort of surreal working with him.

Set for release on September 1 through Vertical Entertainment and DIRECTV, The Layover also stars Matt Jones (Red StateMom), Kal Penn (HouseDesignated Survivor), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time MachineWarm Bodies), and Molly Shannon (Hotel TransylvaniaNever Been Kissed).

The Layover is written by David Hornsby and Lance Krall. The two have previously collaborated on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, on which Hornsby was the writer, executive producer, and frequent guest star. Executive producers include Patricia Cox (who previously worked with Macy on Rudderless) and Jason Cloth of Creative Wealth Media Finance.
