We’re kicking the week off with clips from two of this week’s biggest titles. In the players below, you can go behind the scenes of Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed musical La La Land and explore the franchise sequel Underworld: Blood Wars. Blood Wars marks the fifth entry in the Sony Pictures Screen Gems franchise. You can also pick up the complete Underworld Ultimate Collection on Blu-ray and DVD this week, giving you the entire series in a five film box set.
Other recent big screen releases hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week include director Colm McCarthy’s dystopian tale The Girl with all the Gifts and Onur Tukel’s indie comedy Catfight, starring Anne Heche and Sandra Oh. Then, arriving directly to Blu-ray and DVD this week is the action franchise sequel The Marine 5: Battleground.
Arriving from Shout! Factory this week is Man of La Mancha, the first ever Blu-ray release for director Arthur Hiller’s 1972 adaptation of the Broadway musical, starring Peter O’Toole and Sophia Loren. Hiller’s 1963 comedy The Wheeler Dealers, meanwhile, makes its Blu-ray debut courtesy of Warner Archive. The MOD label also has a treat for movie monster fans with the HD debut of the 1957 killer tree monster flick From Hell It Came.
If it’s monsters you’re looking for, From Hell It Came isn’t this week’s only release. Shout! Factory’s Scream Factory label is deliver two 1958 horror titles with both I Bury the Living and The Screaming Skull. The Film Detective then turns back the clock even further, offering a restored Blu-ray edition of the 1933 horror feature The Vampire Bat.
Shout! round things off with a Blu-ray of the 1984 action sequel The Exterminator 2, starring Robert Ginty and Mario Van Peebles.
The Criterion Collection brings two new titles to Blu-ray and DVD this week. Look for both Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 drama Rumble Fish and Juzo Itami’s 1985 comedy Tompopo.
Among the small screen releases hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week are the first seasons of both TNT’s Animal Kingdom (based on David Michôd’s 2010 feature film of the same name) and the hit anime series One Punch Man. Shout! Factory then continues its impressive DVD series with a complete set of Gekisou Sentai Carranger, one of the many Japanese shows that was later re-edited to become Power Rangers.
Fifty Shades Darker dominates this week’s Digital HD titles. Look for the sequel to arrive on Blu-ray and DVD May 9.
