Hidden Figures, Lion, Monster Trucks, War on Everyone and more hit Blu-ray, Digital HD & DVD this week
Welcome to ComingSoon.net’s look at all the top titles arriving on Blu-ray, Digital HD and DVD this week. Check out the gallery viewer below for a look at the major new releases, catalogue films and television collections hitting shelves and/or VOD beginning Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
There are lot of varied titles hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week and we’re kicking things off with a look at the criminally-underrated gem, War on Everyone. Somehow, the new film from John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary) barely made it theaters earlier this year, but its sense of humor is so finely tuned that it’s hard to imagine it not soon finding an audience now that it comes home. In the player below, you can take a behind-the-scenes look at Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena as a pair of bad, bad cops in the R-rated comedy.
Other recent big screen releases hitting Blu-ray and DVD this week include the acclaimed biopics Hidden Figures and Lion, the family adventure Monster Trucks, the horror thriller The Bye Bye Man, and the stylish western Brimstone. Hitting DVD only, meanwhile, is the WWII drama Walking with the Enemy
After years and years of waiting, Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm series finally gets its home entertainment due. Well Go USA Entertainment collects all five films in the series (including last year’s Phantasm: Ravager) in a box set packed with extra features (check out the substantial listing in the gallery viewer below).
Phantasm isn’t the only horror on the menu on Blu-ray and DVD this week, as Shout! Factory‘s Scream Factory label releases the 1957 B-movie The Vampire and the 1980s exploitation thriller Demented. Also from Shout! this week, look for 1986’s campy actioner Never Too Young to Die. Arrow Films, meanwhile, brings to Blu-ray a two-film horror collection with the appropriately-titled House: Two Stories. Also from the genre label, Takashi Miike’s complete Dead or Alive trilogy gets a nice special edition set.
The Criterion Collection then returns to their impressive Jacques Demy box set and re-releases separate discs for both Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Young Girls of Rochefort.
From Cohen Media, look for a 25th anniversary edition of Julie Dash’s historic Daughters of the Dust, while Warner Archive brings to Blu-ray the 1965 thriller 36 Hours. It adapts a short story by Roald Dahl in which a German army doctor attempts to trick his American prisoner that World War II ended a long time ago. Starring James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, and Rod Taylor, it’s another fun HD debut from WB, which has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to upgrading interesting catalogue titles.
HBO rules over the small screen on Blu-ray and DVD this week with season sets of comedy hits Silicon Valley and Veep (third and fifth, respectively). There’s also the premiere movie Tangled Before Ever After, continuing the adventures from the 2010 Disney animated film.
Arriving via Digital HD this week is the famously very-nearly Best Picture winner, La La Land, alongside Underworld: Blood Wars, the fifth installment in Sony’s Screen Gems franchise. The week also brings to Digital HD a series that has been, for the most part, long unavailable in any format. Captain Planet and the Planeteers can now be found in its entirety on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play!
You can check out cover art for all the April 11, 2017 releases in the gallery viewer below alongside a listing of each release’s special features (where applicable).
