Man, I remember being so much more forgiving toward comic book movies back in 2005, and by forgiving I mean really forgiving, not to mention an extremely poor writer. “So you think you’re a good writer now do yah?” SHUT UP MOM!
Since then I’ve felt beaten down and now, and I’m not above admitting I may be a little too harsh on superhero movies, but I will say I am nothing but honest when it comes to my reviews, and do my best to paint a picture of exactly where I’m coming from. Even if that means enduring the wrath of those that are still on board the superhero steamer.
That said, I gave Tim Story‘s Fantastic Four (2005) a “B-” (yes, ugh, shut up!), and it only makes me wonder what I would give it today. It seems I wasn’t the one to review Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer a couple years later, though Laremy’s “C-” is undoubtedly kind.
Now the Screen Junkies crew set their sights on both films and don’t have anything nice to say, which I think is a slight misstep. These movies weren’t good, but no matter what, I thought Chris Evans was great in both of them. Had it not been for his charisma I’m not sure I could have survived either.
