Watch: First ‘Spotlight’ Trailer Shines Light on Catholic Church Abuse

Yesterday it was announced Spotlight would play the Toronto Film Festival and this morning it was confirmed it would have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The movie,, from writer/director Thomas McCarthy. It’s a movie that’s quickly become one of the most anticipated films over the final months of this year, and for good reason.

Stories focused on journalists often make for excellent cinema and you combine that with a story focused on the Boston Globe investigation into the Boston Archdiocese’s cover up of sexual abuse within the Catholic church, and this cast and you have a whopper of a film on your hands.

As for that cast, it includes Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci, Liev Schreiber, Billy Crudup and John Slattery in a story of the Boston Globe’s Spotlight investigation team who uncovered the scandal and fought to expose the truth.

Following its festival premieres the movie will hit theaters on Nov. 6. Watch the trailer below.
