Salma Hayek‘s career has been a weird one, ranging from Oscar-contending roles in Frida to the horrible Bandidas as well as serving as executive producer on “Ugly Betty”, which is really the only highlight on her resume in the past ten years unless you count her supporting work in the Grown Ups movies. So, to see her going the action route is no big surprise as today we have the first trailer for Everly, a hard-R actioner which received its R-rating for “strong bloody violence, torture, nudity, sexual images and language.”
The movie sounds a bit like The Raid in that Hayek plays a woman trapped in her apartment, who must fend off scores of assassins sent by her ruthless ex, a nefarious drug kingpin. Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2) directs and Togo Igawa (The Last Samurai) co-stars.
Radius is handling the release stateside, though no official date has yet been set.
