Nazi Shadows Loom Over the New Poster and Trailer for ‘Woman in Gold’

Here is a new trailer and poster for a film I had never heard of before. It is called Woman in Gold, which comes to us courtesy of director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn). The poster is obviously what struck me first. It is so comically over the top I could not help but laugh.

Then again, this is a film that comes to us from The Weinstein Company, and with films like this, they certainly are not subtle in their marketing. Despite the comical poster, the film does sport a rather impressive cast including Helen Mirren, Daniel Brühl, and Charles Dance. Ryan Reynolds and Katie Holmes are also in the film, but we don’t need to talk about that.

If you were like me and had no idea what Woman in Gold is, you can check out the synopsis, as well as the new poster and trailer below. Is this just another schmaltzy Holocaust survivor movie? My guess… probably.

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren stars in the incredible story of Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee who is forced to flee Vienna during World War II. Decades later, determined to salvage some dignity from her past, Maria has taken on a mission to reclaim a painting the Nazis stole from her family: the famous Lady In Gold, a portrait of her beloved Aunt Adele. Partnering with an inexperienced but determined young lawyer (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks on an epic journey for justice 60 years in the making.
