There was some hope Fox Searchlight would release Thomas Vinterberg‘s Far from the Madding Crowd some time this year, but as of now they’ve set a May 1, 2015 release for the adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic piece of literature, though I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see that date shift a bit if they decide to take it to Cannes… though I think we can most certainly expect a Sundance premiere.
The story tells of the independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor.
Watch the first trailer below and expect more from this one soon, that is should it play at Sundance as I expect it to.
