Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there are a bunch of people that see this trailer for Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp with a mustache, and they say, “Oh, hey! I know that guy! It’s Johnny Depp, I’ll see that movie. And look, he has a mustache… hardy, har, har, har!” Maybe there are people like that, but I don’t think I personally know any of them, or perhaps I hope I don’t and the cheeky little, “ain’t this cute” plot synopsis isn’t helping matters:
Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
Oh man, it sounds ever so madcap.
Set for release on January 23, the film actually features an impressive cast that I am praying isn’t not entirely wasted including Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Ulrich Thomsen, Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt and Jeff Goldblum. Have a look at the newest trailer below and let me know if you can even imagine braving a trip to the theater for this one.
