Only a month away from its domestic theatrical release, a new trailer has debuted for director Lynn Shelton’s upcoming slacker dramedy Laggies, starring Keira Knightley and Chloë Grace Moretz. Sam Rockwell, Katelyn Dever, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, and Mark Webber help round out the cast for Shelton’s latest, a film about an adult woman stuck in perpetual adolescence. Check out the detailed synopsis below:
Having spent her twenties comfortably inert, 28-year-old Megan (Knightley) reaches a crisis when she finds herself squarely in adulthood with no career prospects, no particular motivation to pursue any and no one to relate to, including her high school boyfriend (Webber). When he proposes, Megan panics and given an opportunity to escape – at least temporarily – she hides out in the home of her new friend, 16-year-old Annika (Moretz) and Annika’s world-weary single dad (Rockwell).
The film is being released in the U.K. under the title Say When, a title that doesn’t do much for me having not seen the film, but apparently U.K. distributor Icon Productions felt the name “Laggies” wouldn’t catch on with audiences across the pond. Fair enough, I also can’t help but wonder if it’ll catch on here.
While Icon is taking up the film’s U.K. distribution, hot upstart A24 is handling the movie’s domestic release. Laggies hits U.S. theaters on October 24, so if you’re up for it give the trailer a watch and decide whether this one’s for you.
