Of course, I use the names Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace in the headline because it’s more eye-grabbing for more people. I could have also used James Gandolfini (in his final film) or Matthias Schoenaerts if I had more space, but the big draw for me with this first trailer for The Drop (previously titled Animal Kingdom) is that it comes from Bullhead director Michael R. Roskam and was written by “Shutter Island” and “Gone Baby Gone” author, Dennis Lehane (based upon his short story “Animal Rescue”).
The film takes an inside look at Organized crime’s use of local New York City bars as money-laundering ‘drops’. When lonely Brooklyn bartender Bob Saginowski (Hardy) uncovers a drop of a different sort in the form of a battered pit bull puppy that he rescues from certain death, he comes into contact with Nadia (Rapace), a mysterious woman hiding a dark past.
The Drop was one of my most anticipated films of 2014 and Fox Searchlight will release the film on September 19. Watch the trailer below.
