Fox Searchlight has finally brought online the first 12 Years a Slave trailer as well as the first poster for the film from Steve McQueen (Shame, Hunger) and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northrup, telling of his tragic kidnapping in Washington DC in 1841 where, despite being born a free man, he was forced into slavery at a Louisiana cotton plantation until his rescue 12 years later.
Along with Ejoifor the film co-stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lupita Nyong’o, Adepero Oduye, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano, Michael Kenneth Williams, Alfre Woodard, Quvenzhané Wallis, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and Taran Killam.
Searchlight has set a October 18 limited release for the pic, which I expect to show up among the names announced on July 23 for the Toronto Film Festival.
For now, check out the trailer and poster below along with six new pictures from the movie.
