Suddenly I Really Want to See ‘Empire State’ with Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth

Lionsgate has announced the September 3 release of Empire State on DVD and Blu-ray, which is a bit of a surprise considering it stars the billion dollar man, Dwayne Johnson. Johnson has had a film in the top ten at the box office ever since February 24 of this year when Snitch was released. He followed that up with G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Pain and Gain and most recently Fast & Furious 6. The four films have brought in over $1 billion at the worldwide box office this year, but his next film will skip the theater and go straight to Best Buy.

Interestingly enough, the names don’t stop there, Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Emma Roberts and Nikki Reed (The Twilight Saga franchise) also star with Dito Montiel (Fighting) directing.

The film is based on the true story and centers on Chris Potamitis (Hemsworth), a security guard for the Empire State Armored Truck Company who makes the mistake of mentioning the company’s lax security to his best friend, Eddie (Michael Angarano), and is soon drawn into the largest cash heist in U.S. history.

Today the first trailer for the film dropped, check it out below. You picking it up? Curious to see what Lionsgate felt wasn’t good enough to spend the marketing money it costs to get this one into theaters? I am… a little.
