Sony has released the first Elysium (8/9) trailer on the heels of the advance buzz created yesterday after a group of bloggers were shown footage from the film and ran home to tap out some positive thoughts on what they saw.
The film comes from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp and is yet another scorched Earth film in a growing line of similarly themed films from WALL•E and Astro Boy to the upcoming Oblivion and After Earth.
This one is set in the year 2159 where two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium – but that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take on a life-threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
