You all know how much I’m looking forward to Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Only God Forgives, re-teaming him with his Drive star Ryan Gosling and co-starring Kristen Scott-Thomas and how much I’m hoping it makes it into the 2013 Cannes Film Festival line-up as did Drive a couple years back. Well, a red band trailer has made its way online and I am doing everything I can to avoid watching it.
The film finds Gosling playing Julian, a former kickboxer and gangster living in Bangkok. When his brother is murdered by a ruthless Thai police lieutenant, Julian is forced to seek vengeance or risk his own death. Scott-Thomas plays the mother doing the forcing.
Weinstein banner Radius-TWC will release the film domestically and it’s actually expected to hit French theaters in May around the same time as the festival, which tells me it’s more likely to be an Out of Competition title, but you better believe that will be one hot ticket.
Check out the Only God Forgives trailer below and let me know what you think. The film will hit theaters on July 19.
