Whenever I’m anticipating a movie, the last thing I want to see is them kicking off their marketing push with a red band trailer. Hell, I don’t want to see the movies I’m anticipating ever having to resort to red band trailers, because that typically tells me one of two things: 1.) they’re having a hard time figuring out how to appeal to audiences, or 2.) the movie stinks and the only way they believe they can convince audiences to go see it is to show them violence or cursing. With no data to back this claim up, I typically assume the latter. However, Trance is directed by Danny Boyle and it’s got a solid cast including James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. It can’t be all that bad can it?
In the film, McAvoy plays Simon, an assistant at an auction house who masterminds an art heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. Simon is the only one who knows where the painting’s location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hires a female hypnotist to get into his brain.
Trance hits UK theaters on March 27 and domestic theaters on April 5. Check out the red band trailer directly below.
