With an official release date of March 22 set, A24 has premiered the first official trailer for Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers, which I saw last year at the Toronto Film Festival and I called it “one of those films that will likely be reviled by most, find cult status with others and get a shrug of the shoulders from the rest.” I fell in the latter category by the way, but I think it’s best summed up with this paragraph from my review:
Korine fuels this 92-minutes of drugs, sex, guns and debauchery with a house-infused score that often thumps to a series of images of college students naked and partying on the beach or in hotel rooms. The film is one montage after another, images foreshadowing what’s to come surrounded by neon and black lights. It’s a theatrical rave experience minus the glow sticks and ecstasy.
The film stars James Franco as a drug-dealing rapper who teams up with four teen girls on their spring break — Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine — to carry off everything mentioned above and then some.
